Go raibh míle maith agat Seán Ó Maoilsté for the write-up from this afternoon's match.
Maith sibh to our senior hurlers who had a big win on the road on Sunday claiming a 5-19 to 0-6 in Machaire Fíolta (Magherafelt). Conditions were pretty challenging for both sides with a gaoth láidir (strong wind) having a big influence on the game.
Fionnbarra Naofa, a relatively new club in southeast Doire, hit the first score of the game but a cúl (goal) after 5 minutes from Neil Corey set out the stall for the visitors. Scores from Reece Magee, Anthony Carville and a cúilín (point) from Neil Corey give Seán Ó Treasaigh a 1-8 to 0-5 lead at half time and they were unlucky not to be further ahead with a great strike rebounding off the crossbar to keep the goal count to one.
The second half was just underway when Anthony Carville fired over another poc saor (free puck) taking advantage of the gála gaoithe (gale). The Treacys pushed up putting pressure on the Fionnbarra Naofa puckouts and were in full control of the second half. A couple of points from Neil Corey and Tam McKavanagh were followed up by a deadly three minute spell with a goal a minute from the visitors through Tam McKavanagh, Reece Magee and Caolán Maher.
With Caolán on the scoreboard, up stepped his athair (father) as cúl báire Decky Maher chipped in with a converted 65. A fifth goal from Patrick Kane was followed up by a good score from Barry McDonald. The home side got one back on 25 minutes, but Seán Ó Treasaigh wrapped up a good win with scores from Patrick Scullion, Tam McKavanagh, Reece Magee and Anthony Carville.
A good performance right across an pháirc (the pitch) and an impressive win away from home. The foireann sinsir (seniors) have a couple of weeks break with their next outing on Tuesday 14 Aibreán (April) against St Malachy's in the McCormack Cup at Tannaghmore Gardens.
