Once more, we have Seán Ó Maoilsté to thank for keeping track of the scores from last night's match.
It was a disappointing evening for our foireann sinsear (senior team) last night after they lost out to Cill Shléibhe (Killeavy) in our final round robin game at Tannaghmore Gardens in the Armagh Senior Championship.
The hosts got off to a good start with Anthony Carville in top form converting three scores go luath sa chluiche (early in the game). Tam McKavanagh, Reece Magee and Conor Carabine from a free chipped in to make it 0-6 to 0-3 after 15 minutes. A number of wasted opportunities started to add up for both sides, but Cill Shléibhe paired it back to the minimum of margins before the Treacys began to find the target again. A Conor Carabine free and good scores from Dylan Mallon and Anthony Carville brought the hosts in three up at leath ama (half time).
At the restart, Treacys had three good attacks which unfortunately finished ar fóraoil (wide) and the visitors took full advantage by firing to the net for the opening cúl (goal) after three minutes. Reece Magee responded with a good point and Treacys pulled back some momentum with cúilíní(points) through Tam McKavanagh and a long-range poc saor (free) from Anthony Carville. Cill Shléibhe however found their accuracy and peeled off four consecutive points to push them further ahead. Patrick Kane and Conor Carabine cancelled out further scores from the Cill Shléibhe men, but a second cúl on 21 minutes left the hosts chasing the game. Killeavy piled on the pressure and racked up 2-4 in a deadly 5 minute spell, ending any hopes that Sean Treacys had of winning the game. Reece Magee and Anthony Carville finished up the scoring for the hosts while Cill Shléibhe added a couple more to their tally to ensure that they would hurl in next year’s senior championship.
Ar an drochuair (unfortunately), we end our senior championship campaign with 6 losses. There is one round left for the other teams with our ‘bye’ fixture next Tuesday. Next up for Cumann Sheáin Uí Threasaigh will be an away game in the intermediate championship with fixture details to be confirmed.
